summer, summer

There is something about the summertime that makes me want to drink iced tea. In fact, I know I'm feeling like it is summertime when I make my first pitcher of iced tea (which I did about 2 weeks ago). I made a fabulous flavored tea, using a few decaf tea bags, a couple of peach tea bags, and one ginger tea bag to give it a little spice. It was really yummy. And recently I had some decaf iced tea that had used a few mint tea bags. That was really good too!

It seems that there are 2 kinds of people, sweet tea, and unsweetened iced tea people. I believe that division happens somewhere south of Michigan, but I'm not sure. Anyone I've known from the "south" has to have sweetened tea. And many Northern folks like their tea unsweetened. Now, I may being a bit too simplistic in this characterization, but I'm calling it as I see it.

Likewise, people can be divided into sun tea folks and regular old brewed tea from the kettle. The sun tea people say that their tea just tastes better. I would argue that maybe their tea tastes better because of all the microbes that grow in it in the warm water all day. (Yuck!) Studies have shown that sun tea has many more bacteria that grow in it while it is brewing all day in the sun. But I guess they aren't bad enough to make anyone sick, otherwise people would stop making the tea that way.

I'm definitely a sweetened/ brewed with boiling water from the kettle kind of girl. Although, these days I use a mix of sugar and splenda to make it a bit more healthy than I used to.
