I've been tire shopping lately. Apparently all 4 of our tires need to be replaced- and badly. We've put it off for a few weeks, but I finally hopped to it and made some calls today. I had done some research and decided on a good all-season that has a 80K warranty. I even got the guy to drop the price to match one I had gotten elsewhere. It was empowering in some ways, and not at all in other ways.
For example, I felt good when they would say.."okay what kind of car do you have", as if they were going to have to find out what size tire I needed. Instead I said, "actually, I can give you the tire size...p205 55r16." He sounded kind of surprised that I already knew what size tire I needed. And then when he asked what kind of tire I was looking for (all-season, touring, performance). I could tell him two specific models I was interested in. I had already done my research and wasn't going to be taken.
But on the other hand, I felt like one guy was trying to sell me something that wasn't necessary and cost a lot more than if we had it done when we get a tune-up. I told him no.
Tomorrow we'll have 4 new tires and our checking account will definitely be lighter.
