tidbits from retreat

I think I mentioned last week that I was doing a retreat with work. Well, one of the things that we received was a report on our behavioral style. It was called a DISC inventory. So, I thought I would share some of the things it said about me. Some of them are totally true, others I think may be true from other people's perspective, but not from mine. Here we go...See if you concur with my natural behavior that I bring to the workplace (and presumably, to other parts of my life)

  • She uses her strong steady tendencies to accomplish her goals
  • Elizabeth may not project a sense of urgency like some people with different behavioral styles
  • Others who work with her can depend on her
  • She likes to set her own pace
  • Once "in the groove" of an established work pattern, Elizabeth can follow it with seemingly unending patience
  • Elizabeth is often seen as practical and objective
  • Making plans and following those plans is important to her
  • If she is shown the benefits, she will consider new procedures
  • Elizabeth is more motivated by logic than emotion
  • She projects a good poker face
  • Basically introverted, she will "engage" in social conversation when the occassion warrants.
  • She can be sensitive to the feelings of others and is able to display real empathy for those who are experiencing difficulties

So what do you think...do these fit me?

They also listed "Do's" for communicating with me (tips for those who need it ;-) Here are a few:

  • Take your time and be persistent
  • be prepared (wow that makes me sound evil)
  • Limit your use of gestures ( I wonder what that means?)
  • Be accurate and realistic
  • Provide a friendly environment
  • Watch carefully for possible areas of early disagreement or dissatisfaction
  • give her time to verify the reliability of your comments
  • use scheduled timetable when implementing new action
  • define clearly (preferably in writing) individual contributions
