I'm leaving tomorrow morning to head back to the wonderful city of Washington D.C. This will be a quick trip, as I'll be returning on saturday. I've got a nanotechnology policy conference to go to all day friday. And I'm sure my hand will hurt from the end of the day from taking copious notes.
I have to psych myself up for these sorts of things where you network and talk with many people you don't know. It is hard to do, and this time I won't know a SOUL there, so there is no back-up plan. I also often feel like I'm just a baby compared to most of the people there. I feel like they look at me and think-geez she sure is young--she can't know anything of value! And I am a newbie compared to most of these folks. That will be my goal- to find someone younger than me there.
Today's happy image: Standing at the bus stop after a day at work, I look up into the sky and see a big black bird (probably 10 inches from beak to tail feather) and then see that it has a long piece of material, probably twice its length, hanging out of its mouth. I couldn't help but think that the bird was pretty happy to have made such a good find. Using something like that in a nest is probably like us installing marble countertops and hardwood floors. That birdie got back to its family and was probably the talk of the roost. I was happy for the bird--even if it wasn't happy itself.
