The first 4 or so days we will be on Oahu in Honolulu for the conference. So the things I've been looking at as interesting there are:
- Waikiki Beach
- USS Arizona
- Lolani Palace
- Diamond Head Crater Hike
- Dole Plantation
- Eating off a shrimp truck
Question 1: Are there other or better things to do on OAHU?
Then, we were going to hop on over to another island. David really wants to do the volcano thing, but as far as I can tell, there are volcanos on many (all?) of the islands. But we haven't decided which island...so:
Question 2: Which island do you recommend?
Question 2a: What do you recommend for that particular island?
We really need to book our hotel for the extra days and possibly a rental car. I've heard that the rental car is the way to go.

Brittany and I got married and honeymooned on Kauai (sp?). They have what is known as "Hawaii's Grand Canyon", which we did some hiking on, as well as the mountain where they shot part of the original King Kong. One thing to keep in mind is what you're looking for. Maui is known more for it's shopping/nightlife, whereas Kauai is very sparsely populated, and more like a national park. I'm sure you both will have fun wherever you decide to go.
Friends and I went to Maui last year. It was BEAUTIFUL!!!! It was also about a month after their 30 days of rain so everything on every island was green. But next to Ohau it is probably the most commercialized island. So it depends on what you want. We went to Ohau for one day and saw the Arizona - I enjoyed that. Waikiki Beach is just a beach with imported sand. If you are a surfer I'm told Diamond Head is better. I would do a Luai. Many hotels have them but the really cool one is in Maui at Lahina. You do have to book that a few months in advance. A helicopter ride is awesome but pricy. The Dole plant is on Ohau. We didn't go but if you have just a few hours to kill you may like it. Have fun planning!!!
I loved Maui. There is a great sunrise trip that takes you to the top of Haleakala (sp?), where you can watch the sunrise and then bike to the bottom.
There is also the Road to Hana, which is a great drive around the edge of the island to a small town on the other side. Along this road you get to see something like 5 climates, waterfalls all over the place, and beautiful coast line and lava fields.
Any island would be great, and I hope to go to Kauai on my next trip.
HUGS!!!
These are all great ideas! We are considering "The big island" where we can see the big volcano. We've got to book soon!
